MATERIALS
Yarn: 1 (1, 1) skein(s) of Classic Sock by Coast to Coast Yarn CO (80% superwash merino, 20% nylon, 400 yds / 366 m – 100 g), colourway Button.
Or approx. 80 (100, 150) yds / 74 (92, 110) m of fingering-weight yarn or any yarn you obtain gauge with. Alternative yarn suggestions are for example Cascade Yarns Heritage Sock or Isager Sock Yarn.
AND misc fingering weight yarn scraps with at least 12 yds / 11 m of each.
Scraps in sample include: The Wandering Flock, Plies and Hellhounds, Little Lionhead Knits, Tiny Human Knits, Wobble Gobble Yarn and others.
Needles: US 1 / 2.25 mm 9" / 23 cm circular needles (translatable to DPN’s or Magic Loop Method) and US 1 / 2.25 mm 32" / 80 cm circular needles for toe decreases and heel insert.
Note: You may choose to size up to a US 1.5 / 2.5 mm needle if your colorwork is tight. Use the US 1 for the cuff, heel and toe and switch to the 1.5’s for the colorwork portions.
Notions: Removable stitch markers, snips, darning needle.
GAUGE
32 sts x 48 rnds to 4" / 10 cm on US 1 / 2.25 mm needles in St St, after blocking.
CONSTRUCTION
These top-down socks are knitted in the round in stranded colorwork using 2 colors at a time. The main color is used to knit an insert where the heel will later be cut in and added. The rest of the foot is knit straight and finished with a contrasting flat toe.
